Saab's current generation 9-5 is expected to undergo a major redesign for 2010. Therefore, think of the 2009 Saab 9-5 Griffin Edition as a swan song from the current model.
Saab faithful will remember the 1992 Saab 9000 CD Griffin Edition as a special model that completed the Saab 9000 CD range that began in 1988 and ended in 1992. Like the 9000, the 9-5 Griffin Edition will include more standard features as well as unique badging. The Griffin Edition will be available in both sedan and SportCombi (wagon) models. Up front matte chrome trims the headlights and grille. Sedans will feature a standard trunklid spoiler and SportCombis get a roof spoiler and matte chrome roof rails. Both models will wear unique 17-inch wheels and special badges.Interiors of the Griffin Edition 9-5s will exhibit high-gloss interior trim, floor mats with grey piping, and accent stitching on the steering wheel, shift lever and handbrake. Accent-stitching will also be found on the two-tone Aero-inspired seats. Also on the standard equipment list are the rear parking assist system and power heated, diming, and folding mirrors. The limited edition 9-5s will come equipped with the same 260 horsepower 2.3-liter engine attached to the five-speed automatic or five-speed manual gearboxes. Pricing of $42,775 for the Sedan and $44,045 for the SportCombi slots in between the prices of similarly equipped 2.3T and Aero models.
